Space planning for shared use

Double sinks and bathroom furnishings for couples: How to multiply your happiness

Brushing your teeth in front of the sink in the morning as a couple can become a challenge. And when she can’t find her mascara and he has no space for his razor, arguments can quickly ensue. And yet, it can be so simple: a double sink or a double bath tub would be just two ways to optimize the space for shared use. Find out what else you can do for a doubly beautiful bathroom here.

Use the space together, from morning to night

A spacious shower, the bath tub for two, and double sinks: Couples will feel comfortable here.

Classic bathrooms are designed to be used by one person. This applies to the shower, the bathroom sink, and the bath tub. But the reality is often different: Couples often have to leave the house at the same time in the morning, and therefore want to use the bathroom at the same time.

This makes it convenient if both people can have their own space, in the form of a practical double sink. For example, you can determine where cosmetics and toiletries will be stored separately. It’s also nice if everyone is entitled to a storage area for clothes. This way, there are no discussions about misplaced socks and sweaters.

Another practical idea is double mirrors. For example, choose round bathroom mirrors that can be placed, very elegantly, side by side over a double sink. Rectangular mirrors that take up the entire width of the vanity are an eye-catcher. Here, there’s no more jostling when putting on makeup and shaving.

Plan your bathroom for two: A double sink is just one idea

A great way to start the day: With a large mirror and double sinks, couples can freshen up at the same time.

If you have the chance to completely redesign this space, here are some key tips to keep in mind when planning:

  • Double sinks: Focus on the convenient double models from the very beginning. Determine who will use which sink so that you and your partner can equip the area with your own toiletries. This way, brushing your teeth in the morning becomes a nice ritual, not pulling teeth. One alternative is a single large, shared sink.
  • Double equipment: Install hanging options for towels on both sides of the sink. If needed, the extra magnifying mirror for shaving or makeup should also be placed on both sides. Agree on what items you both need on a regular basis – and maybe even at the same time, so you can successfully avoid fighting over the hair dryer or grooming towels.

  • Spacious double bath tub: If you like to end the day with a bubble bath, just get into the bath tub together. Whether as a corner bath tub or a freestanding model, double bathtubs come in many different designs and high-quality features.
  • Spacious shower: When planning your shower, account for some extra space. That way, you can jump in together in the morning or end the day under the rainforest shower as a couple.

When planning the space, be sure to also take different usage scenarios into account. This includes a separate toilet area. While it's being used by one person, the other person can still groom themselves or take a bath undisturbed next door.

If there’s plenty of space available, you can also think about your own wellness area with a whirlpool or sauna. Here, loungers or well-cushioned benches invite you to relax – in case your partner is taking a little longer to get ready, once again.

Never fight over the mirror again

Whether big or small: With the right planning, there’s enough space for two in every room. Create the necessary free space for grooming with a double sink, and space for lovely moments as a couple with a spacious shower or a double bath tub.
